Sony TV Owners & Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

i checked out Z9D and X9000F at courts, I find the black not as deep black as the LG C8 or Sony A1. X9000F 85" is a beast. a display set of Z9D is really attractive because of the price but come from a 100", hope to get at least 85" if switch back to TV. Gosh.. when I can wait OLED to drop price.. ha ha.

That's why I like the HN flagship store if you are into Sony TVs. They occupy a small corner, and if you ask nicely they will play the same footage, and also dim the lights slightly..

You can also tweak the settings so you can compare apples to apples.

Most places simply play something really bright in blaze mode..

OLEDs are nice, but imagine paying 16k for a 77"... that's why the current pricing of the Z9D is good. Sony days has just ended, but there should be another in the latter half of the year..

passed by HN at Millenia on Sat, and disturbed a salesman if still got promo for 75" Z9D.

The salesman said if I am keen, he still can salvage 1 set. If anyone keen, you can fly down to HN to check it out to see if can 'puay'...

Nicholas?

Anyway, from AVS forums, they are pretty sure the 65" will be discontinued soon, and that there may be a Z9F or something coming out after IFA in Berlin. But it won't be a HDMI 2.1 TV. Sony is more stingy with their discounts without a promotion, so hopefully bros still hanging on for a deal won't miss the boat.

I do know the rep who sold me my set says there are some sets left, but the price has gone up and you can go down and enquire with cash in hand and try to get a deal on the TVs..

Of course you can wait till the GSS, but like the 2017 OLEDs from LG, they may run out before you bite.. MTL I say if you are really keen.

Or wait for the rest of the 2018 sets.. I am sure somewhere along the way, the new TVs will have the X1 Ultimate chip and of course HDMI 2.1..

FYI, I heard that any upgrade for the Denon 8500 will only come after summer 2019 so don't expect HDMI 2.1 equipped models to come out that soon..

I think always good to wait for the newest model if one is not in a hurry. The only thing I can think of to not wait is that the new TVs might not support 3D and if that is important, then it's better to go for one of the older models if it fits your needs overall.

I have been going down the quality chain, and using poorer quality discs, from 4k to BR and today I popped in True Lies.. a venerable movie, released in the 90s on DVD only..

The problem with larger screens is that you will need a good video chip and even then, there's a limit to how a 480i disc fills the screen..

But surprising, it's pretty good.

Considering that the BR disc was never sold, I am satisfied (not thrilled perhaps) with what I see. Take a bow X1 Extreme...

So if you are looking for a TV which won't make those legacy discs look too bad, this is the right TV..

That may be true since we are on the cusp of HDMI 2.1.. but if the feature set suits, and there is a runout price on a specific model, it may be worth it to take the bite.. I bought a last gen plasma previously and I lost 10% more contrast and black levels.. and life went on.. but my outlay was a lot less..
