Quoting in entirety with permission from content owner, Ronildoq.  For information sharing as some HIFI forum members does not read Planet Bass threads, but the information is very good for HIFI forumers as well.

Very good information on how PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Trap can help with Room modes and bass issues here.

PSI AVAA C20 is the ONLY PROVEN effective bass solution for below 60Hz , right down to 15Hz (!) bass issues, where traditional passive "bass Traps" does not work!

---------------

Alright, just had a half day off and could quickly do some measurements.

This is my Room Noise floor

uc?export=download&id=1-L3aYE412sm0jOyOLLPjM6yZiG71tV6s

Running a sweep with everything muted, it shows approx 43db level. This is the noise flloor at MLP in the Hall. You can see immediately  i have room modes at 23,27,40,58,90hz...

Below are the waterfall plots at MLP. First with just passive traps, second is with Dirac EQ on, 3rd with the PSI on.

you can see how it has cleaned up the decay times down to 20hz. The decay times much improved at 23hz & 27hz, 34hz, 38hz, 58hz, 90hz in green vs purple graph. The Blue is the original before dirac and before PSI active bass trap switched on. Done in GIF format so you can see the decay rates improvement without EQ, with EQ , with PSI.

uc?export=download&id=1WTapdcc2WPG9QbfmLeIHjje9Ethq3IlH

Another way to see this is using the spectogram.

Graph with only dirac and bass traps

uc?export=download&id=1Nwiw0UkXV2toZmVKDkTWTZzJG2YHO1qK

1.You can see clearly the ringing at 90hz, that doesnt end, goes all the way up beyond 1sec on the Y Axis

2.Decay times from 22hz to 35hz shows that it take approx 700ms to decay. This is not so desirable as generally we want soemthing between 200-500ms which is acceptable decay times, anything more suggest room treatment and corner traps.

3.58hz is also more than 600ms

With dirac and bass traps + PSI active bass trap

uc?export=download&id=1jt7PQuzSDnAEKB1aShyRB17RZq3OJ5et

1.90hz ringing eliminated, if i point my cursor at 90hz, the time it takes to decay is 300ms

2.Decay times from 22hz to 35hz shows that it take approx 700ms to decay. This is where PSI comes in, see the entire range of 20-30hz now decays in less than 400ms. and up to 45hz, reduced from 700ms to 600ms. Improved nicely. This is the power of the PSI.

3.58hz down from 600ms to 450ms, very nice indeed.

In my earlier post, i mentioned using Pink Periodic Noise. That is the wrong one. Play a sine wave at the modal frequencies instead, then walk around the room with an SPL meter, when you see a spike in SPL readings for that frequency, place the PSI at that spot. Measure again to confirm if the decay times improves. After placement of the PSI, then we run Dirac EQ.

Dirac uses mixed phased filters, the results are natural sounding bass, mids and highs. Together with the PSI, this is quite awesome

How important is location of PSI trap?  My room has very few options on that front.

Hi, From our installation and experience, depending on where your mains speakers are located, corner placement is very good for a start.  We will PM you to discuss in detail here.

Recent Setups using PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Trap to improve the whole system performance.

xs2nlFP.jpg

Setup 1:

This customer using a customed made 15inch bass driver speakers uses the PSI AVAA C20, located at the right hand corner, behind his speakers, to solve his bass boom issue, with such a big speaker driver close to the back wall, and no other acoustic treatment.  With the corrected and accurate bass, there is actually improved resolution in the mids and highs which where previously hidden by the bass boom.  The result, no bass boom and improved detailed and sound staging across the whole spectrum.

Setup 2.

This setup uses the active ADAM tensor speakers (dual 10 inch) in a typical HDB room.  The bass boom is so bad the room door and window grills rattles when strong bass tracks are played.  The user tried to "treated" the problem with traditional corner foam based "bass" traps with little effect.

With the use of 2 x PSI AVAA C20 active bass traps behind his speakers, his room Bass Boom issue is SOLVED. No more rattling and improved levels of details across all frequency spectrum.  The old ineffective foam bass traps are removed for even better room acoustics

The PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Traps remains the ONLY effective and PROVEN bass absorber solution below 60hz (it works from 15hz to 125hz), that is small in size and elegant in usage.

Some Recent Setups in Singapore bought in Feb 2019 who uses the PSI AVAA to improve the bass performance of their setup.

Setup 1:  White PSI AVAA C20 Active bass trap behind the Manger Speaker.  Just 1 piece at the wall side.  Not only does it improve the bass, image focus, smoothness, quietness all up few notches

hT5dgpV.jpgsIBIWR4.jpg

Setup 2:  Same as above, 1 piece black PSI AVAA C20 at the wall side for this living room setup to improve the bass issues for the wall.  Improved performance across the whole frequency spectrum.

3GBvFA1.jpgkq9k29b.jpg

Setup 3: Another setup with 1 piece black PSI AVAA C20 at the wall side of the hifi setup as well for this living room setup.

WvAz6rT.jpgL2L48kH.jpg

These setups are very typical of living room setups in Singapore, with a window / wall side and an open side to the corridor / dining area.  The PSI AVAA C20 Active pass trap will be a great help to solve the bass issues arising from the wall side.  Its the only PROVEN solution to be this small in size and help with bass issues down to 15Hz.

Another Customer Using the Swiss Made Revolutionary PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Trap, With Measurements!

Customer placed the PSI AVAA C20 active behind his speaker which is beside the wall (further speaker in the picture). This is very typical of Singapore home living room HIFI setup. Where 1 side of the setup is close to a wall / window and the back of the listening area is also a wall.

The results speaks for itself. The red graph is the Original performance with no Bass Trap. Bass Boom experienced. This is typical of the bass energy measurement in such a setup.

The green graph is the performance with just 1 PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Trap. The low bass energy is greatly reduced and customer feedback no more bass boom at all! All the details is increased in the bass region and no smearing of the bass. As a result, the mids and highs are also improved dramatically.
