Administrator Marc Posted March 5, 2021 Administrator Share Posted March 5, 2021 Spoke to Reavon, it's just a lot of hype at the moment. Quote It is a little bit too soon to send you a player since we are still working on it I'm glad they're not rushing it to market full of bugs though. YANG
Well... they had put out prototype picture, but no disclaimer indicating that "Final Product Subjected to Change on Aesthetics and Specifications"...? Price wise, i still feel that Panny UB9k is still the competitive top of the range High-End from Panasonic, second to what Pioneer may offer... Too bad that there wasn't any hack to put in a disc reader into those media player-streamer like Zidoo or Dune or Zappiti or E-Great yet... YANG
Locally, PohKim carries and sells code free DVD player which comes with warranty of 1yr. Thru some chitchat, i found that they had brought a small amount of GIEC FHD BluRay player which are region free supposedly on both BD and DVD playback, and sell thru their branches with limited quantities. So... let's say we bought a GIEC UHD player from overseas, faced hardware issue, maybe we can approach PohKim for assistance to send for repair to China as PK doesn't do local repairs? I perhaps need to dig out some more info from them... in my next visit. GIEC players is available widely in Malaysia. https://shopee.com.my/shop/27056491/search?originalCategoryId=15185&page=0 Malaysian seller offers 1yr warranty to Malaysian market... When you look at the uncased internal, the layout is as "economical" as other typical BluRay player you may come across in the market. Panasonic's UB820/9000 looks much more better in ingredients than this "Ghost".

YANG
Ohhh... So pricing is dependent on package one!!! Basic configuration is roughly abt $800, goes high according to HDD package we choose. Just wondering, will the HDD be installed internally like GIEC BDP5800 or just external connecting HDD? YANG
As previously mentioned... PohKim is selling these players in small quantities and shipments, as they do not have a technical team to do repairs on any faulty sets if encountered by any buyers. Faulty units will need to be sent back to China for repairs or absorbed by PK for 1-1 exchange... which is very rare case. Anyway, @$159, it seems expensive for China made device, but consider that it comes with 1yr "warranty", the multi-code value beats any other makes in the market that comes with just DVDPlay multi-code. Now... it's only down to which UHD-BDPlayer they may consider next to sell thru their shop, the GIEC-BDP5300 or 5500.
YANG
the TASCAM 4K UHD player is now available in U.S., to be available soon across Europe. https://www.thomann.de/intl/tascam_bd_mp4k.htm it's priced @ GBP500 inclusive of shipping internationally to SG, competitively to PANASONIC UB820. However, when it comes to output layout... ...it's going to draw some attentions away from UB820 buyers whom can be audiophiles than videophiles. Looks nice, now need to see how the internal looks like. At the moment I am still debating myself whether should I buy a SACD player or getting a better universal player to connect to my AV processor for audio listening.
